The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO has elected Dr Yutaka Michida as IOC Chairperson for the 2023-2025 biennium. His term will start at the end of the 32nd IOC Assembly (June 30, 2023). This is the first time a Japanese person has been elected as Chairperson since the inception of the IOC in 1960.
