UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)
The IOC promotes scientific research on ocean natural phenomena and resources, and promotes ocean management in participating countries and internationally through the sharing of scientific knowledge and technology.This is an intergovernmental commission established within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with the purpose of The International Collaborative Research Division contributes to IOC activities by sending chairs and committee members to the Japanese government delegation. We also contribute to the activities of the IOC Western Pacific Regional Subcommittee (WESTPAC).
On December 31, 2020, the United Nations recognized the implementation plan for the United Nations Decade of Marine Science for Sustainable Development at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In 2017, we have set out to promote the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly ocean-related goals such as SDG 14 (Save the oceans). Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute will promote the "Decade of Marine Science" in cooperation with domestic and international research institutes and related ministries and agencies.

As an international atmospheric and ocean science research base, the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute has concluded cooperative agreements (MoUs) with universities and research institutes around the world in order to promote international collaborative research and encourage exchanges among students and researchers. I am. We conduct joint research with partner institutions through such means as holding regular symposiums, accepting researchers from partner institutions as visiting professors at OIST, and dispatching OOC faculty and students. The International Collaborative Research Division is responsible for concluding collaboration agreements, holding joint symposiums, and accepting visiting professors.

International cooperation/science and technology transfer
As one of East Asia's leading atmospheric and ocean research institutions, we conduct research, science and technology transfer, and educational activities with countries mainly in Southeast Asia. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)Formation of a research and education network between Japanese researchers and Southeast Asian researchers using the Core-to-Core Program, and UNESCO subsidies from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.He holds training workshops and leads research and science and technology transfer activities through the Western Pacific Intergovernmental Regional Subcommittee of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
